Mary Butler, '85, has accepted a position as founding editor of Online Investor, a bimonthly magazine and Web site launching in 1998. She previously was senior Internet editor at Consumers Digest magazine.


Tim O'Malley, '89, is publisher of Where Chicago Magazine. He previously was Midwest sales manager for the Los Angeles Times.

Dave Statis, '92, is an account executive for the Los Angeles Times. He previously worked for the Chicago Tribune.

Jen Bland, '96, is a reporter for the Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake. She previously worked for the Waterloo-Cedar Falls (Iowa) Courier.

Jason Schaumburg, a December '97 grad, is a sports copy editor for the Northwest Herald.

Kristophere Owens, a December '97 grad, is a reporter for the Rock Island Argus / Moline Dispatch.

Phil Dabney, '83, is publisher of Steamboat Review, Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Christine Klemme, '97, is a sales assistant for Where Chicago Magazine.

John Kariotis, '95, now works as a consultant for Deloitte & Touche in Chicago. He previously worked for Ernst and Young.

Tom Collins, '94, is senior consulting engineer for GE Capital IT Solutions. He previously worked for WinkComm.

Bill Bracken, '92, has a new job as director of special projects for Navy Pier in Chicago.

Grant Miller, '97, is a reporter for the DeKalb Daily Chronicle. He previoously worked as a reporter for Sun Publications of Plainfield.

Peter Denk, '97, is a reporter for the DeKalb Daily Chronicle.

Brian Slupski, '96, is a reporter for the Kane County Chronicle. He previously was a reporter for the Daily Times of Ottawa.

Former Star editor
dies at age 34


Kathy Orr-McDonald, a Northern Star editor in the mid-80s and most recently an award-winning business writer for the Daily Southtown, died of natural causes July 16 in her parked car outside the newspaper's office in Tinley Park. She was 34.
Survivors include her husband, Philip; her parents, John and Noreen; four sisters; and four brothers.
