Four former Northern Star advertising staffers were honored Feb. 28 with this year's Bridge Builder Award for outstanding alumni contributions to the Northern Star.
Eric Barnes, Chris Belec, Matt Bute and Mike Logan all worked in the Northern Star advertising department (though not all at the same time) in the mid- to late 1990s. Since graduating, they've each found their way from other jobs to the Chicago Tribune's sales staff.
All four find time in their busy lives to continue helping the Northern Star - anything from presenting training sessions to the sales staff to helping students polish their resumes.
Star business adviser Maria Krull says the four are inseparable - making it only natural to honor all of them at once.
"When you call one, you know the other three are coming along,"
she said. "I've never heard them say, 'I can't' or 'I don't have time.'"
