Northern Star Alumni: Summer 2001

From the Board

By Tom Collins, '95
President

The Northern Star Alumni Board met this May to discuss plans for the coming year and to reflect on the past year. On the immediate horizon is the July 21 Summer Alumni Picnic. With all of the activities planned for this event, we feel it will be a great opportunity for alums to get together with their families to reminisce with friends, past and present.

Also at our May meeting, the new Board of Directors for the 2002-2004 term was elected. I would like to thank the outgoing Board of Directors for their outstanding service to the organization and challenge the incoming members to continue their success. I look forward to working closely with them to do just that.
Our Hall of Fame continues to be a great success. It just seems like there is no shortage of worthy candidates. The board currently is reviewing nominations for the 2002 class of inductees. I urge you to nominate an alum you feel went above and beyond the call.

We hope activities like the summer picnic will kindle a desire for more alums to become actively involved in the association and help it to be all that we know it can be. Only by your involvement can this association thrive.

Past President

It has been my honor to serve as your president for the past two years. During that time, we have accomplished much as a board and as an organization. The attendance for the annual dinner has increased, the establishment of the Northern Star Hall of Fame and recruitment of members are only a few of our successes.

We still have not fully met our goal of getting every Star alum involved in the organization. Your involvement can be something as simple as adding another alum's name to our database, attending a social function or volunteering some time for the mentoring program. This summer, the first Star Alumni picnic will be held. We encourage you to bring your families and mingle with old and new Star types. It will be a time for Star alums to relax, play some games and get reacquainted with one another. For the next two years, a new president, Tom Collins, will guide our organization to be even better than it already is. If we are all a part of it, I am confident that we will have a bright future.

See you at the picnic in July.
