A new century is upon us. Not only should we look to the past to learn,
but we must begin to plan for the future. The Northern Star Alumni board
met in May and began to make plans for our goals into the next century.
One of the most exciting ideas proposed at the meeting includes establishing
a Northern Star Hall of Fame for alums. In the past 100 years, countless
Star alums have paved the way for the Star to grow into the institution
it is today. Some are legends from the past and others legends in our time.
In the next few months, members of the board will meet to discuss and implement
criteria for choosing those who should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
It is our goal to have an inaugural induction class in February 2000.
Alums will be asked for their input as to who they believe should grace
that first class. Once established, the criteria will be posted on the Web,
along with instructions for those who would like to nominate an alum for
the first Hall of Fame.
The first Hall of Fame class will be announced at our annual dinner in 2000.
The board also voted to transfer money from its alumni fund to the Kathy
Orr scholarship fund. The committee in charge of raising money for the endowment
has done an outstanding job. The money donated from the alumni fund ensure
that Kathy's name will be synonymous with the Northern Star for years to
come.
I invite you to become involved in the Star's alumni association in any
way you can. Time and effort are always needed and appreciated. This organization
can only be as strong as its members.
