Star centennial prompts fund-raising effort By Tim O'Malley
Happy holidays! I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and spirits, ready for the holiday rush.
This year, New Year's Day has a very special meaning for the Northern Star. It will be the first day of a year-long celebration of our centennial. One hundred years ...WOW! The Northern Star has played a critical role in the development of the university and most importantly for thousands of students over the years. In true Star fashion, this calls for a party!
On Feb. 27, we will hold the second annual Star alumni party. This will be a great opportunity to see old friends and swap war stories. Look for details soon.
In the interest of at least 100 more successful years, we will conduct a fund-raiser over the next month. The letter inserted in this newsletter encourages you to donate to the Star and to become a formal member of the Northern Star Alumni. In the spirit of the holidays, please be generous. We'd like to ensure that the Star can continue to function as a separate entity for years to come. We'd also like to make sure that our students get the most support of any college newspaper and that they truly get the best training and development available at this level.
Finally, we'd like to continue the Jerry Thompson Scholarship Fund to ensure that Jerry's impressive contributions are remembered and appreciated for years to come.
We cannot accomplish these goals without your help! If you have any ideas or would like to help with the Alumni party, please call Maria Krull at (815) 753-0707, Jim Killam at (815) 753-4239 or me at (312) 642-1896, ext. 218.Tim O'Malley, NIU '89, is publisher of
