"Never Forget"
By Bill Strauss

Six wooden crosses, standing in a row.
Symbols of our losses, propped against the snow.
Why these six were taken, only God will know
Why the whole world was shaken, by these crosses in the snow.
Five of them with names, a sixth no name at all,
Representing all those taken, that evening in Cole Hall.

We must never forget the day when Angels cried.
Even when the clouds give way to the sun in the sky,
When frowns turn to smiles, when tears begin to dry,
With eyes locked forward and heads held high,
Never forget that tragic date,
February fourteenth, two thousand and eight.

Though people move on, and time will pass,
As we continue to heal, these words will hold fast,
Continue to press on, savor each day more than the last,
Keep hope alive and keep alive the past.
Forward Together Forward, these words have never been more true.
Together we are strong. Together we press on. Forever NIU.
