DeKalb County Board considers purchasing flood-damaged mobile home
By BEN BURR

The DeKalb County Board is considering purchasing Evergreen Village Mobile Home Park in Sycamore.

The concept is still in its infancy, awaiting approval of the county’s hazard mitigation plan.

The plan was submitted in September to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which, until last weekend, had a local presence in the Sycamore Municipal Building, 308 W. State St. They have since abandoned the post.

The mobile home park sustained heavy damage in the August flooding.

Once the hazard mitigation plan is accepted, talks will continue on the possibility of the buyout. A final decision, however, may not be on the horizon.

“We’re a long while away from that,” said County Board Chair Ruth Anne Tobias. Purchasing the property would depend on a variety of factors, chief among them the availability of funds.

The uncertainty of the proposal is also present in the fact that Evergreen Village’s current owner, Frank Santoro, has not yet been approached by county officials.
