A Kishwaukee College Student and a Chicago man have been charged with aggravated robbery.

At 10:46 p.m. Wednesday, two NIU students reported being robbed in the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive. The two victims were walking in the area when they got into an argument with people in an apartment at 912 Edgebrook Drive through a window. When the victims walked away from the apartment, they were approached by the two suspects wearing masks. One displayed a gun in his waistband and demanded property from the victims.

After a brief struggle, the victims fled the area on foot. The suspects were later located at one suspect’s apartment at 912 Edgebrook and were arrested.

Police arrested Kevin D. Brown, 19, of Chicago, and Dion A. Jones, 20, of DeKalb. Both are charged with aggravated robbery.

The two people arguing with the victims inside the apartment earlier that night are believed to be the same two that carried out the robbery, said Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department. The gun displayed by the suspect, which was later found to be a B.B. gun, was found inside the suspect’s apartment.

The victims’ property was later recovered in a garbage can at 7-Eleven, 930 Annie Glidden Road, and in one of the suspect’s cars.

Spangler said this robbery is similar to past ones in the area and a connection is not being ruled out.

“The start of the whole thing is different than the others, but the end result is the same,” Spangler said. “At this point we are not able to clear any of the other robberies.”

This robbery is the second where the suspect was a Kishwaukee College student, he said. The other took place Oct. 16 at University Plaza, 900 Crane Drive.

Brown and Jones were taken to the DeKalb County Jail, pending bond. Both victims and one of the suspects sustained minor injuries. One victim was treated and released at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.
