NIU boasts largest number of registered donors
By

NIU placed first in a statewide organ and tissue donation contest.

The “I Am. Are you?” Campus Challenge, which began Oct. 1, was an event sponsored by Donate Life and involved 20 schools in Illinois.

Each university attempted to attract the most organ and tissue donors on college campuses. Along with Monmouth college, NIU won first place for registering the most donors.

“I’m very proud of the effort given by our entire group,” Hillary Kirschbaum, president of the Student Nurses Organization at NIU said in a press release statement. “It feels good to win the challenge, but most importantly, we were able to make a positive impact on a critical public health issue, and hopefully, help save some lives in the process.”

The contest was divided into two different categories. The first, which NIU won, involved the largest number of new registers. The second contest opted to seek which university could acquire the largest percentage of the actual student population to register as a donor.

“NIU had the largest number of registers on a college campus in the state,” said Jeff Slutz, Donate Life Illinois campus campaign manager.
