This week in TV - Journey Man
By HERMINIA IRIZARRY

Journeyman

Imagine talking to your wife, girlfriend or significant other while preparing to take out the trash. Next, imagine a piercing headache and then being sucked through a time warp and waking up in a different decade in the back of someone’s car.

What’s worse is you’re wearing only what you had on in your house — your boxers, maybe some fuzzy house slippers and the trash you were supposed to throw out.

In NBC’s “Journeyman,” this is the day-to-day life of Dan Vasser.

Not only does he have to deal with trying to plan his outfits according to his random time warps, but he has to balance his stints in the past with a marriage, child and real-time problems in the present; all while attempting to keep his brother and boss from thinking he’s a drug addict.

Moreover, he happens to journey with his ex-girlfriend Olivia who was supposed to have died in a plane crash — and yes she is still in love with him. It’s a lot for poor Dan to handle.

He struggles with the mystery behind his travels but all he knows is he is sent in the past to save someone whose life makes a serious but positive impact on the present.

In this past Monday’s episode, Dan tries to save a man who has to testify against a deadly street gang. The real kicker is, because Dan left behind his work badge, the gang members know who he is. So on top of saving another man’s life, he has to save his past self so that his own future is not disrupted.

What makes “Journeyman” so interesting is that unlike some shows, it’s not the same episode but with different characters week after week.

While Dan goes back in time to save someone each week, his present day life is an ongoing battle as his family tries to grapple with his power/curse and the mystery behind why he journeys in the first place.

As a viewer, you are right alongside Dan and Olivia as they travel back and forth through the space-time continuum.

Stay tuned for next Monday because who knows where we’ll journey next.
