Career Services offers events for Career Development Month
By NICOLE SOSZYNSKI

November is a time for students to look to the future.

November is National Career Development Month, for which Career Services is hosting career development events through Thursday.

Events will discuss the basis of evaluating job offers, said Jocelyn Santana, Career Resource Center manager.

The events include increasing understanding of appropriate ways to engage employers in social and informal settings, discussing interviewing skills, evaluating characteristics employers seek in candidates and explaining techniques for resumes, cover letters and interviews, she said.

“These events are designed to assist students in their career development by addressing important skills and characteristics that employers seek in a candidate,” Santana said.

Career Resource Center interns and graduate assistants researched career development topics and organized events, locations, marketing and speakers for the event, Santana said.

“Our hope is that students will gain further understanding in their own career development and an awareness of Career Services and the resources available to assist them with their career decision-making,” Santana said.

Senior history major Melissa Russell views the events as useful for students.

“I would attend the interviewing dos and don’ts and the career crash course,” Russell said. “Interviewing is the most important part of the job application process, and it would help me with my career, because what I want to do [requires] good interviewing skills.”
