Local woman dies in Kuwait

National Guard SPC Ashley Sietsema, 20, of DeKalb died Monday in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

Sietsema was a medic in the National Guard since July 2005, serving in Kuwait.
She was known for helping people in need and enjoyed teaching Bible classes and helping with community service projects, according to a release from Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home.

Sietsema graduated from East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Class of 2005, and attended NIU for one semester, according to the release.

Sietsema’s survivors include her husband, Max of River Grove; mother, Olivia Alberto Segura of DeKalb; maternal grandmother, Florina Rebolledo; and brother, Kyle Segura of DeKalb.

The viewing and funeral service will be Saturday in Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St. The times for the funeral and viewing will be later announced. Burial with full military honors will be in Fairview Park Cemetery, 1600 S. First St.
