A missing DeKalb girl was found Wednesday in Chicago.

Brittney Studway, 14, of DeKalb was found after last being seen Sept. 6 on her way to Welsh Park from University Village Apartments in DeKalb.

DeKalb police received a call Wednesday from a person living in Chicago who told police Studway had been living with him and he just learned she was reported missing, said Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department. Chicago police went to the location, and the girl was reunited with her mother later that night, he said.

“Our belief is she was staying away from home voluntarily and staying in various locations in Chicago for short periods of time,” Spangler said.

Chicago police arrested the person she was staying with, Matthias Mayhorn, 37, of Chicago and charged him with harboring a runaway.

Studway and Mayhorn are not relatives, and it is not known how they knew each other, Spangler said.
