Huskies fall 76-54 to Wisconsin-Green Bay
By DERRICK SMITH

NIU women’s basketball suffered another loss on their long road trip Wednesday night.

The Huskies fell 76-54 to Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Huskies, now on a four-game losing streak, dropped to 2-5 on the season.

Guard Kylie York scored a career-high 24 points, but it was not enough to propel NIU over the Phoenix. The sophomore shot 50 percent from the field and went 6-13 from behind the arc.

York, normally a shooting guard, had to fill the hole at the point guard position left by junior Jessie Wilcox. Wilcox is out nursing an injured hand she suffered over Thanksgiving break.

“It’s obviously tough playing on the road and extra tough without Jessie,” said head coach Carol Owens. “Kylie tried to do what she could, playing out of position.”

NIU’s struggles with controlling the ball continued Wednesday night as the Huskies turned the ball over 35 times. The Phoenix took advantage of the mistakes, scoring 36 points off of turnovers.

The Huskies held the sharp-shooting Phoenix offense to 2 of 11 on three-point shooting, but allowed Green Bay to shoot 54.5 percent from the field. Green Bay got to the free-throw line 21 times to the Huskies’ nine.

“We weren’t aggressive enough getting to the free-throw line,” Owens said. “We were trying to avoid conflict instead of drawing it. It was our goal before the game to get to the line and obviously we didn’t do that.”
