Sycamore is getting into the holiday spirit this year in a big way.

Discover Sycamore will sponsor a holiday display contest, “Sycamore Lights Up My Life.”

The entry time is Saturday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 7 and is open to all Sycamore residents. Entry forms can be found online and at Sycamore chamber members’ businesses.

“The person before me [Kayte Hamel] and the ladies in the office got the wheels turning for it,” said Jamie Sands, director of Discover Sycamore. “It’s very much a collaboration of Kayte Hamel and Rose Tremel‘s [the executive director of the Sycamore Chamber] ideas.”

Other inspiration also came from communities and cities worldwide that host such contests.

Voting for the winning display will take place Dec. 14 and Dec. 15.

“There will be two old-fashioned trolleys on those days,” Sands said.

The trolleys will take residents on two different routes, which will be determined when the entries are final, and take residents around for free to see the displays. After seeing the displays, they will have the opportunity to vote.

The winner will be announced on Dec. 19 in both the Sycamore News and on the radio. The best display will win a $250 cash prize.
