It “inconveniences” us, so let’s freeze the babies... I mean, “dependents”
Wednesday’s clever language is used to over-prioritize equality. The only way that the article “Northern View bus stops inconvenient,“ was able to get away with a seemingly harmless advocacy, was in not saying that these students have small children, even newborns. He replaces the crucial mental picture that the reader would receive from saying the word “newborn,” with the word: “dependents.”
The Language of Thought (LOT) is a philosophical hypothesis, but is all too evident in this case. Even the title of the article is created to move the reader to obtain a mental picture: “Let’s freeze the babies.” Sensationalist, or not, the real problem is in the priorities that are exemplified by the language of contemporary writers and readers.
Writers think that if their point advocates equality for whatever reason, then it should be digested no matter what the cost.
The cost is that even if babies are being “privileged” it’s for a good reason: Babies aren’t good at regulating their body temperature as well as the rest of us. So why not pick them up at their doorstep? It’s not equal, but its humane.
