NIU quarterback Dan Nicholson underwent surgery Monday, Jan. 7.

However, NIU Sports Information says the junior was back in DeKalb for the first day of classes. Details about Nicholson’s surgery remain unreleased as of press time.

Nicholson played in nine games last season before missing the final two because of a shoulder injury.

In his final game of the season, he led NIU to a 27-20 win over Kent State, throwing for 275 yards and two touchdowns.

The Chicago native finished the season averaging 181 yards passing per game while throwing for nine touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
