Huskies place 10th at Midlands Championships
By STEVE NITZ

The NIU wrestling team finished 10th at the 45th annual Midlands Championships at Northwestern.

The tournament consisted of over 50 teams. The Huskies finished ahead of top 25 teams such as No. 8 Missouri and No. 24 Northern Iowa.

“The fact that we had so many pins, that helped us to get our point spread up,” NIU head coach Dave Grant said.

NIU senior Pat Castillo finished fifth at 133 pounds to place for the third straight year.

“It’s always a big tournament,” Castillo said. “The best guys in the nation are usually there. It’s a good tournament to see where you’re at and what you have to work on.”

Junior Jesse Linczmaier didn’t place but recorded the fastest fall of the entire tournament at 30 seconds.
