DeKALB | The DeKalb and Sycamore fire departments kept wreaths red over the holidays.

From Thanksgiving Day to Jan. 1, red wreaths were hung outside fire stations in DeKalb and Sycamore as part of the Red Wreath program. Whenever a fire related to the holiday season occurred, a red light bulb in the wreath was replaced with a white light bulb.

No such incidents were reported in either DeKalb or Sycamore, according to press releases from the DeKalb and Sycamore fire departments.

Fires related to the holiday season include those caused by outdoor light decorations and candles, said DeKalb Fire Chief Lanny Russell.

During the 41–day period, the DeKalb Fire Department responded to only one structure fire, which occurred on Dec. 23 and caused an estimated $75,000 in damage but no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire was ruled undetermined and not related to the holidays, according to a DeKalb Fire Department press release.
