Religious groups encourage unity at MLK march
By LETTER WRITER

Dear Editor,

We, as leaders and advisers to NIU campus religious organizations and as leaders of community religious organizations, encourage members of the DeKalb-Sycamore community to join the march this Thursday, January 17, in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The march begins at Stevenson Tower North Residence Hall at 4 p.m. winding its way to the MLK Commons and continuing into the Holmes Student Center for a short program.

Visitors participating in the march who require parking should park in the two lots west of Stevenson Towers. Officially, these lots are “P” and “PF” and there should be no ticketing between the hours of 3-6 p.m. only.

We also support New Hope Baptist Church’s annual MLK Commemoration. It will be held Monday, Jan. 21, at the DeKalb High School. A reception will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a program at 7 p.m. The program, including readings of essays, should last about one hour.

As the new semester begins at NIU, we believe one powerful and healing response to the events surrounding the closure of NIU during the December finals week is to show our collective solidarity to the tenets of Dr. King’s life work—to act for justice, peace and reconciliation. Join us.
