NIU women's basketball team continue to struggle on the road
By NORTHERN STAR STAFF

NIU’s road woes continue as the women’s basketball team fell 75-51 to Western Michigan on Saturday.

“I don’t know if it’s the struggle of playing on the road and how tough it is to be on the road, but we’ve got to find a way to get together and fight when you’re on the road,” head coach Carol Owens said in an NIU press release. “I think a little bit of that is youth. We’re dependent on our freshmen and sophomores to step up.”

The Huskies (5-12, 1-3) shot 50 percent from the field in the first half but went into the locker room at halftime trailing 40-28.

The Broncos (6-12, 3-1) turned it up in the second half, opening up with an 8-0 run and led by as many as 26 points.

Four of WMU’s starters scored in double figures Saturday.

Senior Whitney Lowe led the way for NIU with 14 points and five rebounds. Junior Jessie Wilcox scored 12 points, dished out four assists and swiped three steals.
