New York indie–pop foursome Via Audio played the House Café last Saturday night in support of their debut album, “Say Something.”

Whether or not it was a conscious effort to rile up the audience or just the band’s biological response to the sub-zero temperatures outside, their set was energetic and vigorous.

The album material the band performed live defied the often sweeter, sometimes delicate studio recordings, showcasing vivaciousness that is only hinted at on the CD.

Via Audio sat down with the Northern Star after the show to discuss the album, touring in Tokyo and “bro-mance” with producer and Spoon drummer, Jim Eno.

Northern Star: In the bio on your Web site, it says that you “draw from all the depths and corners of your musical upbringings.” Is there anything in those depths and corners you’d like to remark on?

Tom Deis: Well, I have a lot of secret Michael Jackson inside me.

Jessica Martins: I don’t think it’s a secret.

TD: I like to think it’s a secret, but everybody knows. Everybody.

David Limzi: Earth, Wind and Fire, baby.

JM: I don’t know what my answer is.

TD: It’s Lisa Loeb.

JM: (Laughs) That’s a deep, dark secret.

TD: There’s an “I love Lisa Loeb” sticker on Jess’s guitar.

JM: There’s an autographed one, too.

DL: That’s deep down.

Adam Sturtevant: I got one: I think my biggest musical influence is the soundtrack to “Blade Runner”

JM: Yeah, Vangelis! Van-friggin’-gelis!
