Beer of the week: Goose Island Oatmeal Stout
By DAN STONE

Grade:

The Beer:
Oatmeal Stout is one of Goose Island’s year-round specialty beers. The dark, creamy stout is complemented with a moderately bitter taste and chocolate overtones.

The Good:
The creamy-mouth feel of the beer is excellent. Adding chocolate flavor to a beer can often hurt the taste, but this is not the case with Goose Island’s Oatmeal Stout. The brew caters to a wide variety of beer drinkers.

The Bad:
Though the brew has very few weak points, the overall flavor really doesn’t stack up as anything special or overly memorable.

The Cost:
$7.99 for a six-pack; also available in variety packs.

The Recommendation:
If you like dark, creamy beers, especially stout beers, an oatmeal stout offers a different and enjoyable experience. Oatmeal stout, like other stout beers, is dark and thick, so it would not be a good choice for a light-beer drinker.
Many microbreweries in the United States make oatmeal stout beers that offer a variety of tastes.
