The U opens doors to well-dressed public, looks to expand
By AMANDA PODGORNY

DeKalb’s night life has a new contender.

The U at DeKalb, 1000 West Lincoln Highway, opens to the public tonight.

The new bar will function more as a night club and be open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

“We’re looking to expand [the business],” said owner and manager Anthony Tomkiewicz. “But we’re a nightclub for now.”

The U will have a varying cover charge, depending on the night and entertainment.

“I really don’t see it going more than $5 ever,” Tomkiewicz said. “Some nights it will be nothing.”

The dress code for The U at DeKalb is described as “fashionably chic.”

“If you look like you just stepped out of an Abercrombie magazine or an Express magazine, then there you go,” Tomkiewicz said.

Plans are in the making for a grand opening celebration in two or three weeks.
