A dryer fire caused an estimated $2,000 in damage Monday afternoon to a house in the 1400 block of Oakwood Avenue.
Around noon, the DeKalb Fire Department was called to 1435 Oakwood Ave. for a possible house fire. Smoke was found coming from a dryer fire in the residence, and a small extension of the fire went into the wall where the vent connected, DeKalb Fire Chief Lanny Russell said at the scene.
Initial units determined the fire started near the clothes dryer, and the flames were extinguished by the occupants, according to a DeKalb Fire Department press release.
The fire was caused by the dryer’s vent overheating on clothing that was touching the vent, and the fire was determined accidental, according to the release.
No residents were injured in the fire. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital. The injured firefighter is expected to be released from the hospital, said Joe Jones, DeKalb Fire Department battalion chief. The injury was a minor back strain and is still under evaluation.
