Desserts provide opportunity to taste-test and donate
By AMANDA PODGORNY

A charitable event is offering patrons the opportunity to have their cake and eat it too.

Sweet Dreams Desserts, 1969B DeKalb Ave., is hosting a tasting event at Blumen Gardens, 403 Edwards St., in Sycamore from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight.

“We wanted to have it in January or February, and why not have it on Fat Tuesday?” said Deanna Watkins, owner of Sweet Dreams Desserts.

Sweet Dreams Desserts has been open for two years and hopes this event will help make a name for themselves in the world of catering.

“[The event] is a taste of basic, good food that people would want to use for a wedding or event,” Watkins said.

Tasting stations will include a picnic-themed station, a dessert station, an hors d’oeuvres station and a “higher-end station.”

Other local businesses will be featured and there will be entertainment by Craig Mathey on the piano.

The cost of the tasting is $5 per person, and the proceeds will be donated to one of three local charities: Hospice, Special Olympics and Opportunity House.

“Why not add an element to [the event] to raise some money for charities around the area?” Watkins said.
