Latino center to host policy expert’s lecture
The NIU Center for Latino and Latin American Studies is hosting a Latino policy expert tonight to talk about the perceived lack of recognition Latinos receive in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Angelo Falcon, president and co-founder of the National Institute for Latino Policy and faculty member at Columbia University in New York City, will give the lecture “The Latino War on The War: A Report from the Battlefield” from 7 to 8 p.m.
A seminar will also take place Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Campus Life Building, Room 100, regarding the Latino voice in the U.S.
Nursing professor wins educator fellowship
NIU nursing professor Karen Baldwin has been named the winner of the Nurse Educator Fellowship Award from the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
Baldwin will receive $10,000 to help improve her work as a teacher and researcher.
She said she may use the money to purchase new equipment for use in the NIU nursing classrooms.
Women’s center to screen film
“All God’s Children,” a film intersecting people who are LGBT and another identity, will be shown at the LGBT Resource Center at noon today and at 9 p.m. at the Women’s Resource Center.
The film showing is part of a movie series which began last semester.
Identities featured throughout the semester will include Asian, black, Latino, Jewish and Native American, among others.
CAB will hold poker night at Huskie Den
The Campus Activities Board is hosting a poker night tonight in the Huskie Den at the Holmes Student Center.
Registration for the poker tournaments begin at 7 p.m., with the start time for the tournaments at 8 p.m. There is no cost to students.
