Lottery dreams came true for a DeKalb shopper who picked the lucky numbers.
A lotto ticket sold Friday to an unknown shopper at Schnucks, 975 S. Annie Glidden Road, is worth more than $12 million.
Schnucks is still performing its own search and is looking into which associate sold the winning “Quick Pick” ticket, said co-manager Ammar Mahmood.
The ticket with the winning numbers - 20, 28, 33, 38, 49 and 50 - is worth $12,250,000.
The lucky winner will be made public as soon as the lottery receives specific information about the winner, said Madonna Duncan, a representative for Hill & Knowlton, the Illinois Lottery’s public relations firm.
“Until they come forward, we’re kinda in a holding pattern here,” Duncan said.
Schnucks will receive a one percent bonus of the winning ticket amount.
“The winner has up to a year to claim the prize,” Duncan said. “After a year, the prize goes into the state common school fund.”
The funds will be distributed as the winner sees fit, either in a lump sum or spread out over time.
“It’s really a personal preference,” Duncan said. “We don’t see a trend in how they accept their winnings.”
