Fans still hungry for 'Aqua Teen' can purchase DVD
By BEN BURR

Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Volume 5 DVD

If you’re the kind of person who has been happy with the “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” DVD sets in the past, this disc set should meet your standards. If you feel “Aqua Teen” episodes have very little replay value, think twice before splurging on this release.

Like its predecessors, season five delivers what it promises: 14 episodes of the show, but not much more. The set features an uncensored edition of “Dickesode,” but, without the bleeps, the dialogue loses some of its humor.

The off-the-cuff creativity of “Aqua Teen” humor would lead viewers to expect more original, inventive extras on two entire discs, but Williams Street takes little advantage of their capacity. As it has been with previous seasons on disc, the actual “features” are few and lacking imagination.

Most of the bonus material is promotional chaff for the movie that is based on the series. Some of it is tantalizingly named, like “ATHF Movie Premiere With Space Ghost,” but the footage is disappointing. A few live-action minutes into George Lowe feigning embarrassment of having his “hams stuffed into the costume,” and the novelty is gone.

The extras aren’t a complete loss, though. There is a minute-long video of porn star Tera Patrick recording dialogue for an episode in which she guest-starred. Better still is the 12-minute, original “Space Ghost Coast to Coast” episode, written by the Aqua Teen boys and starring Bob Costas.

But these two gems don’t rescue the rest of the featurettes. It really is a shame that the people at Williams Street can’t put into their DVDs the same effort they give the show itself (or notorious stunts like the LED Mooninite Boston Bomb-scare of 2007). If you don’t get a kick out of watching the episodes over and over, buying the Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Volume 5 DVD isn’t worth the scratch.
