One shooting victim identified

The Northern Star has identified one of the victims of Thursday’s shooting in Cole Hall.

Daniel Parmenter, a sophomore finance major, was one of six killed in the shooting, said friends and members of his fraternity.

Parmenter worked in the Northern Star’s business department as an advertising representative.

Though NIU authorities did not confirm any names of victims, they did say the six dead students include four females and two males.

Four students were dead at the scene, one of whom included the shooter, and two others died later at the hospital.

There were 22 total victims, said President John Peters.

RIP Dan. I went to High School with him. He was a good guy and no one deserves their lives to be cut short.

As an alumni from NIU, my heart goes out to all of the staff and students as well as the family of the victims. My husband and I have such wonderful memories of our time at NIU and grieve for everyone in DeKalb. God Bless all of you.
