Women’s soccer: 25 shots, one goal this season
By DERRICK SMITH

The NIU women’s soccer team looks forward to the weekend with a pair of home matches against University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Western Illinois.

The Huskies host UW-GB (0-2) today at 4 p.m. and face the 2-0 Bulldogs on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Huskie defense has been performing soundly as they have yet to allow a goal this year and look to continue that trend this weekend.

“We’re looking to maintain the things we’re doing well already,” said associate head coach Paul Jobson.

The offense has been working this week to get out all of the kinks normally present at the beginning of the season. While they have had many opportunities to get on the board, out-shooting their opponents 25-8, they only have one goal.

“In practice we’ve been working to put players in position to score goals,” Jobson said. “We’ve been working to get more repetitions in front of the goal to get them used to doing that in a game situation.”

The Huskies face a pair of teams that have a different attack than they saw last weekend. Their last two opponents played four defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards (4-3-3). This weekend’s opponents play a 4-4-2.

“We’re facing a new system of play that we haven’t seen this weekend,” Jobson said. “We’re making adjustments for a team that plays a little different formation and that makes us better.”
