Dear Students:

The tragedy of February 14, 2008, was an unspeakable horror that shook the very foundation of our community. Now the process of healing begins.

As you return to NIU, you will be greeted by over 550 counselors whom I have assembled to help you deal with your transition back to a regular schedule of academic and personal pursuits.

These counselors, wearing red armbands, will be available to you in class and at other campus locations, at your request, on Monday and Tuesday. You will also see Student Affairs staff members, wearing black armbands.

They will also be available to assist you, whenever you need them, to answer questions and concerns that affect your life as an NIU student.

Our transition to normality may be gradual, but we will rise above that moment that made our world stand still. We will heal, and we will move forward together.

Forward, Together Forward…

Brian O Hemphill, Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs
