Gymnastics team to host CMU and UIC Sunday
By STEVE NITZ

After having three weeks off between meets, the NIU gymnastics team will take the floor for the second time in five days.

The Huskies host Central Michigan (1-5 overall, 1-3 MAC) and Illinois–Chicago Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center at 2 p.m.

The meet is NIU’s last at home for the season. The Huskies will honor their four seniors at the final home meet.

There are four seniors on the team – Allison Holysz, Amanda Johnson, Jennifer Rice and Amber Whitecotton.

NIU head coach Mark Sontag is happy to be back on the floor.

“So many of the skills that we do are timing–based skills,” Sontag said. “We don’t want to take breaks.”

The Huskies (3-1 overall, 2-1 MAC), will face UIC (1-6, 1-0 MIC) for the second time this week. NIU defeated UIC 193.675-192.500 Wednesday in Chicago.

“We’re excited,” Sontag said. “It sets us up in a better frame of mind, what we need to do.”

NIU has two more matches before the Illinois State Championships on March 22.
