Plot: Music sensation Jackie Moon (Ferrell) is the owner, coach and team captain of the Flint Michigan Tropics, a semi-professional basketball team whose chances of greatness are realized when they get the chance to become part of the NBA.

The Good: “Semi-Pro” has its moments, but none are exceptionally hilarious. One of the best moments may be a scene depicting the seriousness of calling someone a jive turkey, which subsequently leads to a very odd, yet quirky confrontation. Other than that, Harrelson’s take on a washed-up, former NBA bench-rider is the only acting worth crediting in this film. His story seems like it could have been made into a separate, better film.

The Bad: This movie has no purpose. The plot drags on from one random event to another, never establishing a focus. The dialogue is written so crudely that when it’s delivered, it’s an awkward attempt at shock value, which falls flat. There’s also no real action in the movie, besides pointless gags here and there that make it seem like the entire movie was improved.

The Lowdown: Though it isn’t entirely unfunny, “Semi-Pro” may be Will Ferrell’s least funny film to date. It tries to survive on Ferrell’s star power alone, which is not enough to carry it out of damnation. When in search of a good comedy with a ’70s vibe and a phenomenal Will Ferrell performance, borrow “Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy” from a friend.
