Warm day combined with rain results in minor flooding
By ALAN EDRINN

DeKalb experienced minor flooding throughout the day Monday from a combination of clogged drains and the Kishwaukee River rising.

Drains clogged with ice and snow caused water in the street to move slowly, leading to slush, said Joel Maurer, DeKalb director of engineering.

Some areas south of town, including Dawn Court, David Avenue and Lions Park have experienced some minor flooding from the Kishwaukee River over-banking, but the water level was expected to peak Monday evening. Areas of the river north of Hillcrest Drive are at high water levels, but still within the levies’ capacity.

River levels should start going down around midnight, Maurer said.

“It should return to normal by this weekend,” he said.
