Track of the Day: 'Wasting My Life' by The Hippos
By KATIE TRUSK

Nothing makes a sappy, pathetic crush more fun than The Hippos’ “Wasting My Life.”

Taken from the southern California band’s “Heads Are Gonna Roll” album, this song hit the waves in the summer months of 1999, along with the rest of the tail end of the ska era.

With a wild synthesizer sound and popping horn line, the track allows listeners to come to terms with a longing lust by vocally admitting that this love could just be a waste of time and emotion.

Even though the Hippos have not released a record since the band’s 2003 self-titled album, the group still remains most well-known for this sad, but still rockin’ ska song.
