The Kishwaukee Family YMCA, 2500 W. Bethany Road, recently received a $7,000 grant in support of a YMCA Adventure Guides Program.

The grant was given by the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, an organization that produces paper-based products under brand names such as “Kleenex,” “Kotex,” “Cottonelle” and “Huggies.”

Debbie Madeley, membership development and marketing director for the YMCA, said the YMCA applied for this grant several months ago and found they had received the grant last week. She also said over 100 different YMCA organizations applied for the grant and only 12 actually received it.

According to a Kishwaukee Family YMCA press release, the Adventure Guides Program is aimed at strengthening the relationship and companionship between parents and young children, generally ages five to 10 years old. The program will be launched this fall.

“This is a very exciting grant because it will start a new parent-child program that, in a way, is like the Boy Scouts, in that there will be structured field trips and meetings,” Madeley said.

The program is designed to encourage further interaction between parents and children, she said.

Events that will be involved with the program include camping, bowling, sledding, ice skating, dinners and parties as well as other various activities.

This year marks Kimberly-Clark’s eighth consecutive year as a corporate partner in the support of community YMCA’s mission to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Kimberly-Clark has made overall contributions of over $12 million to family YMCA’s.
