Board of trustees to discuss fee hikes
By MICHAEL VAN DER HARST

Possible student fee hikes will be addressed at today’s NIU Board of Trustees committee meetings.

The Finance, Facilities and Operations Committee will recommend increases in student fees and room and board rates, starting this fall.

Students will face an increase between 2 and 5 percent in total fees, depending on fees paid over the last year.

Residence Hall rates will also go up by an average of 9.4 percent, if the increases are approved at today’s meeting.

Students who use university health insurance could also be facing an increase in cost. The current rate of $350 will increase to $377 per semester.

If approved, all changes will go into affect at the start of the 2009 Fiscal Year, which is April 1, 2008.

The Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday, March 27.
