Track of the Day: 'Into the Light' by The Chemistry Set
By NYSSA BULKES

This song is like a bedtime story for big kids.

The glockenspiel starts the song off with a simplistic, childish innocence. The chord progression sounds like an upbeat, sad song, but then there’s that driving beat. Sporadic harmonies by vocalists Steve Duncan and Meredith Knoll make it whimsically inspirational.

In the chorus, Duncan’s vocals make him sound like he’s a kid lying on his back, looking up at the sky, singing, “Lost but not alone / close my eyes and start to float.”

Remember when you were that kid? It reminds us that, regardless of what’s going on in life, we’re still a part of something much bigger than ourselves.

From the album “The Chemistry Set” (2005).
