Every year, March Madness comes with controversy about the selection committee and how it chose the field of 65.

This year is no different.

While there are some possible glaring mistakes in this year’s field (Arizona getting in over Arizona State being the biggest), experts spent the last four days speaking their minds on how to fix this problem.

Some think the current set up is good how it is. Others think there should be four play-in games instead of just one.

Bob Knight threw out the most radical idea: Expand the field to 128 teams.

But there is one idea I agree with.

You should not give automatic bids to teams who win their conference tournaments who didn’t win their regular season conference crown or at least finish in the top two or three.

Think of it this way: Georgia matched its season conference win total of four in the SEC tournament. Four conference wins means you are not one of the best 65 teams in the country. Georgia should never have been in the tournament.

If you win your conference tournament, good for you. But just because you won four games in a row doesn’t atone for a horrible season by some teams.
Leave them out and let the at-large bids decide everything.
