Wrestlers finish first day of national tournament
By STEVE NITZ

Pat Castillo

Castillo won his first two matches, but then lost in his third.

The senior earned a 9-2 decision over Cal Poly’s Borislav Novachkov in the preliminary round and a 12-4 major decision over Christian Smith of Liberty in the first round.

The two wins put Castillo in a second–round matchup with No. 7 seed Mike Grey of Cornell, who defeated Castillo 4-1.

Pat McLemore

No. 4 seed Nathan Morgan of Oklahoma State defeated McLemore with a 15-0 technical fall in the first round to knock McLemore into wrestlebacks.

McLemore followed with a 3-1 victory over Northern Iowa’s C.J. Ettelson to advance to the second day of competition.

Duke Burk

Burk won his first–round match over Northwestern’s Nick Hayes with a 7-3 decision. The two had already wrestled twice this season, splitting the matches.

Burk advanced to the second round against another wrestler he had faced twice on the season in Central Michigan’s Brandon Sinnott. Burk’s only two losses since December have came at the hands of Sinnott, who defeated Burk once again by a 4-3 decision.
