Dear Comedy Central,

For months now, you have been airing promos for the new Wednesday night lineup, featuring new “South Park” and Lewis Black’s “Root of all Evil.”
“South Park” will surely be great. In fact, the first two episodes of the 12th season have tackled some great issues (Cartman getting HIV and Britney Spears). Yes, this will be another season filled with the standard brilliance that comes with Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Yet one question remains: Did you even watch “Root of all Evil” before you gave it a time slot? It reminds me of Adam Corolla’s terrible talk show with its awkward, unfunny format.

Lewis Black is one of the best comedians in the world, and it’s sad to see that he’s reduced himself to this. These comedians Black “presides” over (Greg Giraldo, Paul F. Tompkins and Andrew Daly), are really just bringing their C-list material to the table, with forced, awkward laughs from an otherwise disenchanted crowd.

It’s a great premise for a show; social commentary presided over by one of America’s best cultural critics. Yet no boundaries are pushed. The “arguments” are mere ramblings about Donald Trump’s hair or Oprah’s weight. They just feel childish.

Remember “Stella?” That show was a personal favorite, and you axed it after one season. There were other shows you canceled too quickly, such as “American Body Shop,” “Freak Show” and “Halfway Home.” Every time I see Carlos Mencia (real name: Ned Holness) wasting people’s time, I shudder.
So, here is your advice: Let Lewis Black do the show the best way he can. Let it be incredibly un-PC. Let the comedians be a little bit off-the-cuff, and most of all, axe the laugh sign above the audience.

To the rest of us, there is hope. Sometime in the future, David Cross and Patton Oswalt are going to play “lawyers.” Let us think that maybe there is a chance that funny people could make us laugh on Comedy Central.
