Several home-made explosive devices were set off Wednesday night in the 400 block of Pine Street.
At 9:20 p.m., the devices were found detonated near a residence in the block. The explosives caused minor damage to a residence, but no one was injured, said Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department.
The DeKalb Police, who were first called to the scene for a report of gun shots, recovered evidence from the explosives that is being analyzed. Police are not sure if the residence was being targeted, and the incident is not believed to be gang-related, Spangler said.
Spangler said that police are still looking for a motive but that it does not seem as if a residence was targeted, he said.
Spangler described the devices as being more powerful than fireworks but not able to do a great deal of damage.
“The suspect was probably more likely to be harmed by the device than anyone else,” he said. “Someone who would set it off would have to be in close proximity to the device.”
A suspect was seen running from the scene after the explosions. They are described as possibly Hispanic, 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build, wearing dark clothing.
Several vehicles in the area were also damaged that evening, but no evidence of any explosives was found, Spangler said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the DeKalb Police Department at 815-748-8400.
