No one likes the number 13, and the NIU softball team surely agrees, as the Huskies’ losing streak was extended to 13 games this weekend.

NIU lost both games of a doubleheader this weekend against Central Michigan, with final scores of 2-0 and 4-1. The two games marked the first conference contests for NIU.

Sophomore pitcher Kate Greenough lasted the distance in Game 1 for NIU (5-15 overall, 0-2 MAC), giving up only two runs. However, the Huskies were unable to cash in on any of their five hits for a run.

NIU received a scare in Game 2 as pitcher Taryn Hagemann had to leave after the first batter. Central Michigan’s (11-11, 3-1) lead–off hitter Tracy Kaatz slapped a line drive that hit Hagemann’s head.

Hagemann needed stitches, but is reported to be fine, according to the Media Services’ Web site. The senior did not reappear in the game.
