An NIU survey is awaiting response in students’ Webmail inboxes.
Students received an e-mail Monday from Student Affairs that provides a link to a survey asking students’ opinions on Cole Hall’s future.
Amy Franklin, director of assessment and training for Student Affairs, thinks the surveys will be effective.
“The survey is a good tool for identifying the perspectives of a broad representation of NIU students. And I anticipate achieving a good response from our students,” Franklin said. “It is very important that we hear from students as the university begins to heal from our campus tragedy.”
Franklin also mentioned other ways students can voice their opinions.
“Students are able to voice their input to the university via student forums, e-mail and various groups represented by the Advisory Task Force,” she said.
Nick Klockenga, senior computer science major, thinks e-mail may not be the best method.
“Doing surveys through e-mail is informative but not the best way to do a survey,” he said.
He finds that doing a survey in person is more effective.
“If someone were to set a booth on campus and have students fill out surveys on the spot, they will get a better response by conducting them person to person,” Klockenga said.
Kate Worden, junior family social services major, thinks many people won’t take the survey because they want to move on.
“I think the survey is important but many students want to move on and don’t want to bother with taking a survey,” Worden said.
