Rant: An Opening Day white flag (Not the 'W' kind)

It had all the makings of a perfect start to the season.

As a pitching duel for eight innings, the Cubs found themselves down 3–0 heading to the bottom of the ninth. But it seemed the Lovable Losers said “Enough is enough.”

With two runners on, the Cubs’ newest addition, Kosuke Fukudome, sent one to the bleachers.
The hopes were high in extra innings, but the Brewers grabbed the 4–3 lead and the eventual win.

Now, with a record of 0–1, it’s time for Cubs fans to panic. Zambrano left with cramps; you know that’s code for “he’s done for the year.” And Wood hit a batter with his first pitch as a closer – that’s at least seven years of bad luck. Then there’s the fact that D–Lee had two strikeouts in five at–bats. You can forget about an MVP season from him.

Yes, Cub fans, it looks like this won’t be the year. No, instead, this is the year the Cubs go 0–162. This is the year where everything that can go wrong will go wrong. We might as well just throw in the towel after this one.

April Fool’s! Come on; it’s only one game. There are 161 left to sit back and enjoy. That ‘W’ will fly soon enough.
