DeKalb Community Unit School District 428 is looking for a new superintendent.

After 39 years in various public education positions, superintendent Paul Beilfuss is retiring.

“I have chosen to spend more time with our beautiful daughters and their families,” Beilfuss said. “So family is now first in my life.”

To aid in the process of finding a new superintendent, the board of education has teamed up with a search firm.

“The board of education has connected with the Illinois Association of School Boards,” said Russ Fletcher, school/community relations liaison.

Mike Verbic, DeKalb School Board president, explained the process the IASB and Board of Education will go through.

“IASB searches for our superintendent of schools candidates,” Verbic said. “They will receive information gathered from surveys and other means to assist in their recommendations to the school board.”

Once the information is gathered, the IASB brings the finalist in front of the school board.

“The school board will establish interview committees, which may consist of staff, parents, administrators and/or other community members from our school district, to determine which finalists the committees recommends to the board,” Verbic said.

The school board hopes to announce the new superintendent before the end of June.

“We appreciate Dr. Paul Beilfuss’ many significant contributions, including improved student achievement, a balanced budget and passing of our building referendum,” Verbic said.
