Apollo show letter was unfair and sarcastic

“Your review should have ended after the first two paragraphs. That would have been fair. What you went on to do with the rest of your review is vent some deeper personal issues. As a mentor, I would say you have some maturing to do. There are more productive ways to deal with your displeasure and embarrassment.” (Minister Jerry Wright).

Mr. Wright, with all due respect, I am displeased with your letter directed toward Patrick Battle.

First of all, Battle was not reviewing the Apollo show. He merely stated his opinion of the first act, which consisted of African-American males running on stage screaming “lookin’ ass n––––.” After stating his opinion of the first act, he went on to apologize for not enduring the remainder of that torturous song and the remainder of the Apollo. Now, when Battle apologized for his abrupt departure, he implicitly stated that he had received feedback about the remainder of the acts. Battle simply relayed a message from peers who attended the event. The column Battle wrote was very concise and understandable; therefore, if you read, it you would have realized Mr. Battle was actually giving acts, after the first, a positive review based on feedback from attendees.

Finally, you stated that Battle is immature for venting deep personal issues with displeasure and embarrassment. Mr. Wright, we are both hypocrites because we are, in fact, venting deep personal issues with displeasure and embarrassment – the same way Battle, allegedly, did. I am embarrassed because you are a minister, mentor and you are employed by Student Support Services, but you aren’t doing your job. In your position, the right thing to do would have been to contact Battle personally, but you wanted to embarrass him. Your letter was not genuine and very sarcastic. Your attempt to embarrass Patrick Battle has failed and you have, indeed, embarrassed yourself.
