Smith wins presidency in RHA elections
By JOHN RANALLO

Eugene D. Smith was elected Residence Hall Assocation President Sunday night.

RHA Elections for next year took place in the C/D cafeteria of Douglas Hall, with results being announced at 8:19 p.m.

The election filled the president, administrative vice president, programming vice president, tresurer, National Communications Coordinator/Illinois Communications Coordinator (NCC/ICC) and public relations positions of the RHA executive board.

Candidates made opening speeches, then listened as voters and audience members posed questions within an alotted time period. Questions included a variety of topics including conflict resolution, retention of members, policy and guidelines as well as many other subjects.

Candidates then left the room, and audience members were given time to debate over which candidate was best for the job. Several debates and questioning periods had to be extended for additional discussion.

Four candidates ran unopposed in the race. However, both president and administrative vice president had two candidates running.

Smith, a sophomore political science major, believes the election process went smoothly and will bring forth good results.

“I am very confident about the people that were elected to the e-board and I’m optimistic about the RHA future,” Smith said.
