DeKalb residents arrested in alleged attempted robbery
By ALAN EDRINN

Two DeKalb residents were arrested Thursday after allegedly robbing an NIU student following a dice game.

At 9:40 p.m., following a dice game in an apartment at 831 Kimberly Drive, two members of the game got into an argument with the victim and struck him in the head and took his money. The victim then left and called the police to the apartment.

Police arrested Brian Mitchell, 20, and Kenneth Mitchell, 19, both of DeKalb, and charged them with robbery. Kenneth is an NIU student, Brian is not, said Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department.

Despite similarities in the way the victim was robbed and the location, Spangler said it is not believed this robbery is connected to the robbery Wednesday night where an NIU student was robbed in the 1200 block of Normal Road by three unknown suspects.

“As far as connecting this to the other robbery, we don’t have any information to believe the two are connected,” he said.
